About the Event

What is SEMIC?

The Scientific Initiation Seminar (SEMIC) is an annual event promoted by the São Leopoldo Mandic Faculty with the objective of disseminating the scientific and extension work developed by undergraduate students in Dentistry and Medicine throughout the academic year.

The event is free and open to the academic community, bringing together scholarship students and volunteers from the Scientific Initiation Program (PIBIC), the Institutional Program for Initiation Scholarships in Technological Development and Innovation (PIBITI), as well as research, free theme, and extension projects.

During SEMIC, students present their work to evaluation panels composed of faculty and researchers from the institution, receiving critical and constructive feedback on their research. The highest-rated projects in the PIBIC category are awarded financial recognition.

The event also features lectures and complementary activities that broaden the scientific horizons of participants and strengthen the research culture at the institution.

Categories

Registration Categories

The works submitted to SEMIC are organized into five categories, according to the program to which the student is affiliated.

PIBIC

Institutional Program for Scientific Initiation Scholarships – intended for scholarship students linked to the scientific initiation program with a CNPq or institutional scholarship.

PIBITI

Institutional Scholarship Program for Undergraduate Research in Technological Development and Innovation – for students who have developed research focused on technological innovation.

Search

Intended for students who have carried out scientific research activities without being affiliated with an institutional scholarship, but under the guidance of a research professor from the institution.

Free Theme

This category is open to scientific works developed by undergraduate students that do not fit into the other categories, provided they are supervised by a faculty member of the institution.

Extension

Intended for projects resulting from university extension activities developed by students, with a direct impact on the community and linked to teaching and research.

Modalities

Presentation Formats

Oral

The work is presented verbally by the student to the evaluation panel, with the aid of a slide presentation (PowerPoint). The presentation and questioning time is defined in the call for applications for each edition.

Panel

The work is presented in the form of a scientific poster displayed during a specific session of the event. Students must remain near the poster to answer questions from the evaluators and visitors.

Roundtable Discussion

This format is primarily intended for Extension projects, promoting a participatory debate between presenters, evaluators, and the audience, focusing on the social impact of the activities carried out.
