The São Leopoldo Mandic Faculty actively promotes the publication of technical and scientific works and the defense of the intellectual property of its faculty and students, with more than 40 patents registered with the INPI (Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property) in recent years in the fields of Dentistry and Medicine.

São Leopoldo Mandic takes an active stance in defending the intellectual property generated within its academic environment. The institution encourages the creation and registration of patents, recognizing the importance of protecting innovations developed by faculty and students in its graduate programs.
Two patents have already been granted full licenses: PI 0401214-3 A2 (Geniana II Plate) and MU8403653-2 Y1 (Nouer Cephalometer), demonstrating the complete innovation cycle — from academic research to protected industrial application.
Mandic's intellectual property portfolio includes therapeutic devices, dental instruments, interactive learning platforms, implants, and prosthetic components, reflecting the diversity and applicability of the research developed at the institution.

Invention Patent
Protects inventions with inventive step, novelty, and industrial application. Valid for 20 years from the date of filing. Used for surgical devices, implants, and pharmaceutical compositions.
MU / UM
Utility Model
Protects practical objects with a new shape or arrangement, resulting in improved functionality. Valid for 15 years. Used for enhanced dental instruments and equipment.
BR 20
Industrial Design
Protects the ornamental shape or the overall ornamental arrangement of lines and colors applied to a product. Valid for 10 years, renewable. Used for components with innovative design.
PCT
International Patent (PCT)
An international patent application that allows seeking protection in multiple countries simultaneously. Used for inventions with global commercialization potential, such as pharmaceutical compositions.

Protect your invention with NIT support

Identification of the invention
The researcher communicates the invention or creation developed within the scope of their activities at the institution to the Center for Technological Innovation (NIT) by filling out the Invention Declaration form.

Patentability analysis
The NIT (Innovation and Technology Center) conducts a prior art search and evaluates the inventive potential, novelty, and industrial application of the invention, determining the most appropriate type of protection (Invention Patent, Utility Model, etc.).

Preparation of the descriptive report
With the support of the NIT (Innovation and Technology Center) and, when necessary, an industrial property agent, a descriptive report of the invention is prepared, including claims, abstract, and technical drawings.

Deposit with the INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property)
The patent application is filed electronically with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), establishing the priority date and initiating the examination process.

Monitoring the process
The NIT (Technology Innovation Center) monitors the entire process with the INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property), responding to technical and formal requirements, until the granting of the patent or utility model.
